Jewelry Care

Maintaining your jewelry’s beauty and longevity requires proper care. Follow these tips to ensure your jewelry lasts for generations:

Maintain your jewellery

  • Wear and Remove: Jewelry should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off. Always remove jewelry before going to bed.
  • Regular Cleaning: After wearing, use a soft polishing cloth to remove skin residues and product build-up. See our Polishing Cloth selection for the best options.
  • Prevent Skin Reactions: If certain jewelry irritates your skin, apply a layer of clear nail polish to the inside. This creates a protective barrier and helps prevent skin reactions caused by high acidity levels, which are not considered manufacturing faults.
  • Handle Gemstones with Care: Crystals and gemstones are delicate and can chip or fracture when knocked against hard surfaces. Though inspected and quality-checked before shipment, damage due to wear and tear is not a manufacturing fault.
  • Tarnish Prevention: Exposure to air and moisture can cause tarnishing. Store your jewelry in an airtight bag (like a zip lock) with a silica gel packet to absorb moisture. Check out our organization section for storage solutions.
  • Prevent Scratches: Store each piece separately to avoid tangling and scratching. Ensure clasps on necklaces and bracelets are securely fastened, and avoid contact between crystals, gemstones, and other jewelry pieces to prevent scratching.
  • Sensitive Skin: If you have sensitive skin or are prone to allergic reactions, consider 14k or 18k gold jewelry, which is gentler on the skin.
  • Damaged Items: If your jewelry arrives damaged, please contact us immediately for repair.

Additional Care Tips:

  • Sunlight: Excessive heat, humidity, and sunlight can fade or damage gemstones like amethyst, topaz, pearls, and opals. Store these pieces in a dark pouch or case.
  • Chemicals: Avoid exposing your jewelry to household chemicals, body products (like lotions, perfumes, and hairspray), and excessive perspiration, which can tarnish metals and dull gemstones. Apply these products before wearing your jewelry and remove jewelry before activities such as swimming, showering, or cleaning.
  • Treated Gemstones: Treated gemstones require special care. Avoid exposure to heat, steam, and ultrasonic cleaners. This applies to:
  • Organic gems (pearls, coral, ivory)
  • Fracture-filled gems (e.g., emeralds)
  • Coated gems (e.g., Mystic Fire Topaz)
  • Heat-sensitive gems (e.g., tanzanite, iolite, opal)

Storing Your Jewelry:

Proper storage is essential to prevent scratches, damage, and tarnish:

  • Use Lined Boxes or Pouches: Store diamonds, gemstones, pearls, and other jewelry in a lined box or pouch rather than tossing them into a drawer. Our felt-lined, padded slots with anti-tarnish linings are perfect for organizing and protecting your pieces, especially sterling silver.
  • Care for Pearls and Opals: Pearls and opals need moisture to maintain their beauty. Avoid storing them in safes or lockboxes, as dryness can damage them. Instead, keep them in a soft jewelry pouch or box. Wearing pearls regularly helps preserve their luster as they absorb oils from your skin.
